I have had a few requests for the instructions on how to make these cute jean aprons, so here you go: - Hold the bottom of the jean's pant leg to your chest (the bottom of the jeans becomes the top of the apron) and measure how long you would like the apron and mark it on the jeans. Next measure how far down from the top you would like the waist straps and mark on the jeans.
- Fold the one jean pant leg in half along the outer seam and cut a desired pattern (make sure you cut through both sides so the apron is the same shape for both sides). The seam of the jeans will end up going down the center of the apron. (it is kind of like when you were little and would cut hearts out by folding a piece of paper in half and cutting the one side of the heart, then opening it up and you have the full even heart shape. Make sense?)
- Pin double fold bias tape in the color of your choice to the edges of the apron. Leave 24 inches of bias tape at the top of each side of the apron for the strings that tie around your neck.
- Sew the bias tape to the apron starting at the very end of the strings that tie around your neck and go completely around to the other end.
- Cut two strips of bias tape 30 inches long for the straps that tie around your waist.
- Sew each strip of bias tape closed so you have 2 separate strips of fabric.
- Sew each strip to the sides of the apron at the desired location that you marked in step #1. I placed the strip at the mark but going inward toward the center of the apron. I sewed a little line toward the inner part of the bias tape in keep it in place and then flipped the strip over the place I just sewed and sewed another line at the very edge of the jeans. I repeated this for the second strip on the other side.
- Cut out and add pockets, belt loops, jeans labels, and other embellishments as desired.
Have fun and be creative! We had a lot of really cute and different aprons!! A picture of our entire group is on the next post...
